Gymnastics Camp, Movies, and Extended Family Dinner

As we entered into August this week, Landon had gymnastics camp, we played with friends at home, and we had a (non-) birthday dinner with extended family.

This week started Boys Gymnastics Camp for Landon and the other boys at AirTime Training Center. We aren’t exactly sure why it is called a camp, but the boys had a lot of fun during the week. Monday Landon did a shortened practice, and then the boys headed to the Clyde Recreation Center via the AirTime Gymnastics Bus.

Eliza started her second session of swimming lessons around the corner from our house. Eliza wants to be so independent that she takes herself to and from swimming each day. As soon as she gets home, it is time to shower, change for gymnastics, and eat before we head out the door.

Tuesday morning started out with Hallie doing a little pampering with getting her nails done. Eliza headed to swim, and Mike picked up some boys from gymnastics to take them to the movies. Most of the boys saw Incredibles 2, and they all had a fun time.

Hallie took Eliza and Adi (a friend from gymnastics who is going to be a sophomore) to Salt Lake with her for the afternoon. Hallie was diagnosed with sleep apnea several weeks ago, and she is going to try to use a dental appliance to help with her sleep issues. The recommended dentist is in downtown Salt Lake, and Hallie didn’t think Eliza would have a whole lot of fun just hanging out in the waiting room, and we didn’t know how long this appointment would last, so Adi and Eliza hung out at City Creek, having girl fun.

On our way home, the girls stopped at Howdy’s for ice cream for a delicious treat. Howdy’s never
fails to deliver good-tasting ice cream.

Tuesday evening, we went to the “Friends and Family” soft opening for Tropical Smoothie Cafe. We were quite impressed and dined very well.

The boys of gymnastics opted for a ropes course morning at Provo Beach. We decided that it wasn’t worth our time to go to Provo Beach, so we kept Landon home. Eliza had swimming lessons. On Wednesday, we had several girls over to play with Eliza – both our new next door neighbors and a friend from church. Mom took them all out for ice cream at SOS Drug.

Landon started not feeling well in the morning, so he spent the day lying in bed until he felt quite a bit better. Hallie and Marilyn drove to Midway to pick up a pair of shoes for Eliza. It was a nice drive, and the scenery was quite beautiful.

Thursday morning Landon went on a nice little hike with the boys from gymnastics up in the hills. At the end, there was a nice waterfall; Landon must have enjoyed himself with how dirty he was when Hallie picked him up.

Eliza had her last swim class for the week and then gymnastics as usual. Eliza’s swim teacher told Hallie that if she ever wanted to quit gymnastics, there would be a place for her in swimming.

Friday morning came bright and early, for we had to be to gymnastics at 8:00 am. Guard Young, an Olympic Silver Medalist who is also the BYU head coach for Women’s Gymnastics, greeted the boys. Guard chatted with the boys for a bit and then coached them for about 90 minutes. Hallie may have been more excited about this opportunity than a lot of the boys, but hopefully some of them got something out of the experience.

We finished the day with our pizza and a movie where we watched film number 7 of Harry Potter.

Both kids volunteered to help with gymnastics Saturday morning, so Hallie and the kids were once again, at gym before 9:00 am. Hallie stayed at gymnastics for the two hours or so the kids were there and enjoyed watching them be examples to new and returning coaches.

After gymnastics we headed to the movie theatre to see Christopher Robin, and we all really enjoyed seeing the movie. Once we got home, the sleep apnea kicked in, and Hallie took a nap while Mike and the kids did other things.

Later, Landon went with Lincoln and his mom down to the creek.

. . . while Hallie and Eliza did some grocery shopping and took advantage of the Hawaiian-themed photo op at Smiths.

Poor Fergus. How Eliza torments him. No, he actually enjoyed the attention.

Sunday was church, choir, and a fun extended family birthday dinner. Eliza and Hallie walked home from the dinner, and when they got home Hallie met a new family that lives in the townhomes, and they chatted for a while. The weather is finally cooling off in the evenings and the girls saw a beautiful sunset.
