2020, June 22-28

We started the week with Christmas in Payson. By the end of the week, we had stormy weather.

Main Street in Payson has become the set of a Hallmark movie! It's all decked out in wreaths and garland, Hallie took Lily down to see what all the fuss was about.

Eliza had horseback riding in the afternoon. Look just above her back and you will see Eliza's head.

We have the first fruits of the garden! Sweet cherry tomatoes, with more to follow.

Lily accompanied Hallie and Eliza to her other riding appointment later in the week. Lily has recently gone camping so we were playing campfire. What an imagination this child has.

So many babies at the Ranch it was so fun to see all of them outside in the weather.

The cousins are coming at the end of July and Eliza's favorite game is Uno. So when Hallie saw UnoCorns we had to get it to play when they come. We have had several rousing hands already.

On Friday, Eliza helped babysit Chloe. Chloe actually prefers Eliza more than Hallie so Eliza is getting some of the money from Hallie's job for her hard work.

We went up to Grandma and Grandpa M.'s and caught some shots of the local deer. These were all taken by Eliza on Hallie's cell phone.

On Sunday morning, Fergus left us the present of a dismembered and disemboweled bird on the front porch. We made Landon help clean up the mess. He wanted to wear goggles too but they came apart so his grocery bag and his mask would have to do. Hallie then scrubbed down the porch to get rid of anything else that may have been leftovers. Eliza cleaned up the vole that Fergus left for us just before we headed on a bit of a road trip. Eliza crafted a trash bag to cover her clothes while she scrubbed the porch with bleach and water solution. Eliza is very clever and can be quite creative.

Having heard poppies were in bloom in Alpine, we braved the lowering clouds and thunder to walk around in the fields to find them. While the bloom had faded, we did see many thistles and wildflowers.

By the afternoon, the winds had really picked up, and the smoke from three fires in the valley tinged the air.

It got bad enough that we chose to take the garden indoors to avoid the plants getting knocked over.

Eliza rolled around the floor as we enjoyed a couple of movies and watched the new church get dedicated.

On that note, Mike appreciated a message given by our stake president in a talk given at our new church dedication. He noted that, all politics aside, we should emphasize faith over fear. Whatever our political leanings, stances on current issues, and whatnot, we will get through the issues facing us by finding common ground and moving forward with optimism. No one knows for certain what the future may bring, but we can act with positivity day by day to build more humane, understanding, and beautiful relationships, families, communities, and societies.

2020, June 15-21

Longer and longer days led up to the summer solstice this week. We also celebrated Father's Day and went back to church for the first time in some 105 days.

Early in the week, Hallie took Lily to Dutch's farm to visit with and feed the animals. We saw baby goats and Hallie picked one up to let Lily pet one. At 3 years old Lily did a good job taking a picture of Hallie.

Eliza always has fun at gym (once she gets there). Monday after gym while waiting for Landon to be finished Lily, Eliza, and Morgan played in the foyer and Lily was their little shadow. It was so cute!

On this night Eliza invited Morgan came with us and the girls had a great time! We stopped by a McDonalds that gave us extra food on accident. We had a good laugh and the boys enjoyed the extra food. Eliza enjoys her new horseback riding routine.

Thursday a day Hallie doesn't normally see Lily she ran into her in her mom's office balancing pizza and playing.

Hallie and Alicia went out to the Wick Lab to celebrate Alicia's birthday. The two women had a great time and came home with two fun new scents.

There are some fun murals around Provo and on our way to the car we found this fun one.

Eliza and Mike made art. Eliza made a miniature of her uneven bars with friend Morgan. Eliza also brought home glow in the dark slime that Dad and Mom are not too pleased about but she loves playing with, a lot!

Mike engaged in careful forgery. This time with a plate from a book from 1913.

On Saturday, Mike and the kids helped Dwight put together the trampoline.

At gymnastics the kids now have to provide their own receptacle for their chalk. Landon chose a plastic tub and even though Hallie tried to get Eliza to get a plastic tub too, Eliza was bound to get a bag. Here is Eliza's shark-shaped chalk bag.

The boys got much-needed haircuts from Tera, a hairstylist who is mom to one of the kids at gym.

Hallie and friends Julie and Alicia had a girls' night out on Saturday evening.

On Father's Day, after church we had fall-off-the-bone tender ribs. Delish! Mike also got a snazzy bath robe and Beau Ties Limited face masks. Handy for looking like a bandit while at church!

2020, June 8-14

Late spring is beginning to melt into early summer. The snow has nearly left the mountains, and what green there was in the fields is taking on a toasted golden hue.

We attempt to get the kids to do daily chores and homework. Attempt is the key word. Fortunately, they do manage to get some work done. It helps that we've made playing Fortnite an incentive.

Eliza got to go horseback riding twice this week! We're transitioning over to a new place while using up the last lessons from the old.

Eliza and Hallie seem to share Hallie's phone a lot lately. Eliza has discovered the glamour selfie.

Both kids had changes made to their bedrooms this week. Mike put together Landon's new bed. The boy seems happy. Landon's new bed frame is quite tall and he likes that and felt a need to perch.

And Eliza now sleeps in this Little Tikes car. No, she got a new mattress (not pictured because we all know what mattresses look like). For a long time she has complained about the mattress that we got with her bed. So on our return to our weekly date we set out to buy her a mattress.

Again, with the horseback riding, this time at Taylor Ranch. This place has beautiful views. In the picture below Eliza was learning how to lunge the horse she rides. We received a bit of rain the previous weekend and Rihanna the horse needed some exercise before she took Eliza for a lesson.

Hallie helps out at the gym by babysitting not only Lily but a couple of other kiddos too. Sometimes Chloe misses her mom. Eliza who is quite good at Hallie's phone figured out how to let everyone know what was on Chloe's mind.

Once again, Landon helped at Grandma and Grandpa M.'s with the lawn, and Eliza helped fish some mummified voles from out of a basement window well and did a bit of weeding. Grandma M treated us to homemade breakfast burritos. A great way to start off a morning of work. After all of the work we spent some time sitting on their steps and enjoyed the view and the warming weather.

We enjoyed dinner of grilled salmon with our neighbors on Sunday evening. All in all, even with the heat beginning to assert itself, there's plenty of cool breezes to enjoy along with the conversation outside.

2020, June 1-7

And here we are in June! This week we launched into full summer mode, with morning classes and other routines we'll keep for the next several weeks.

Mike finally went back on campus as a regular part of his days this week. It's eerily quiet in his building, except for the really loud long set of noises that now happen when his air conditioning stops running.

With his graduation money in hand, Landon opened his first personal savings account. Mom took him over to Central Bank, where Coach Morgan works as a teller. Can you tell how excited he was? He should have been super excited, as the bank gave him money for opening an account and Morgan gave him and Eliza full sized candy bars.

The garden is coming along nicely. Hallie loves her babies! This really is exciting. The fun part is everyone helping to grow this masterpiece.

Hallie took Eliza and Lily on a scavenger hunt of local businesses. Maybe just maybe they will win this time.

Here we thought Fergie's eye was all healed. But no. Time to go back to the medicine. In his way, he loves Mom and his cuddles, always on his own terms, of course. Hallie deleted the picture of Fergus cuddling up to her bosom. It does make us all sad that Fergus is not feeling well.

We continue to process the protests that have happened here in Utah and elsewhere, and we stand strongly against both individual and institutional racism.

Hallie had the stitches from her tongue removed on Thursday. Her tongue is still slightly swollen and if it doesn't go down she will have to have the scar tissue removed, again. Ugh!

Our goofball son got hold of Hallie's phone. Time to embarrass him.

On Saturday, Landon helped out Grandpa M. by mowing the lawn at their house. Bonus! We got a yummy breakfast. The kids, Mike and Grandpa M. also unloaded a big shipment of boxes in the backyard so a shed could be built. We were proud of Landon and his hard work and listening skills. He said he wants to do it again. Eliza loves exploring the 40 acres behind their house.

The weather went from hot to rainy. Crazy June. It has been so nice to sleep with the windows open and enjoy time outside.
