Both kids ended their school years this week, and then Mike
took a student group to Tokyo, Japan, leaving Hallie alone with the beasties.
Somehow we’ll all make it, right?
Earlier in the week, Hallie took the kids to the auto parts
store. This is what happens when our kids and motorcycle helmets collide.
Hallie and Eliza looked after Sawyer later on Tuesday.
She took the kids to Shave-It for some shave ice.
Wednesday and Thursday had end-of-year parties. We had Eliza's on Wednesday, a pirate-themed parrrrty.
And then we had Landon's on Thursday.
Friday evening, Mike got dropped off at CLU, and after
teaching class, he took an overnight flight to Tokyo. He arrived at 5:00 AM Sunday
local time, 16 hours ahead of 1:00 PM Pacific Time Saturday back at home. He didn’t
get a whole lot of sleep on the flight, so hopefully that will mean sound
slumber after the events of the day, which included getting lost on a walk
around the Imperial Palace grounds in rain as he and a student waited to be
allowed to check in to their hotel rooms.
Later in the day, they met up with their host and went back out on the town for dinner and then on a train trip to Takeshita (say it Tah-KAY-sh'ta) Dori in the Harajuku neighborhood of Tokyo. It's kind of like Santa Monica's 3rd Street Promenade or Calle Florida in Buenos Aires but more crowded.

By the time we returned, we were walked out and ready for sleep!
Back at home, Sunday was just about to get started. Mom and the kids went over to Grandma and Grandpa M.'s for dinner.
