We had Art City Days all week long, and Kai spent his first few days at his new home.
(Of course, we still love on Fergus!)
On Monday, Eliza and Dad went on a bike ride to the park and dirt trail north of Hobble Creek and west of 950 W. Mike was familiar with the trails south of the creek, but this was his first time on this side.
Eliza showed him how to race down a hill she liked. She said it reminded her of when she used to do BMX.
At BUH, Eliza learned how to bake cookies. She told the girls there, "You should try the ones my dad made!" Apparently our recipe is better.
Service involves mucking the stalls, but it also means earning time to ride the horses.
Mike took advantage of the brief window of wind in the afternoon to get a kite flight in. The wind this month has been temperamental, usually leading to storms in the afternoon if there's any wind to speak of. He rarely has to catch an east wind (with the trees and whatnot, he prefers to go in the other direction).
E got on the BUH Insta again.
June has continued to be a month of flowers (as it usually is, but with the wet weather, more so). Along with the wildflowers Mike has seen, Eliza caught several (along with a mosquito) on her outdoor rounds. Eliza likes to take Hallie's phone to catch pictures and is quite proud of her efforts.
The picture of relaxed contentment.
We watched the new Spider Man movie as a family in the afternoon. What a feast for the eyes! We read that a teenager had done a LEGO remake of one of the teasers and was invited to do the LEGO scenes in the movie. So many styles and so much creativity!
Eliza had her BUH advancement ceremony on Wednesday. She even got to participate by giving her first-ever public speech (outside of Primary). She was the youngest speaker, and she did an amazing job of speaking up and keeping her poise. Well done! Gwen is the Barn Manager and she spoke about the legend of the horseshoe and below are all the girls who advanced and a lot of the staff from BUH. We are grateful to them all. Grandpa and Grandma M made it back from Lily's graduation to attend with us. The very bottom picture is Eliza's trainer Aspen, who Eliza adores.
After the advancement ceremony, we went down to the City Center to catch some Art City Days festivities. We even met the Miss Springville/Mapleton Royal Court! They were all so kind and complimentary of Eliza. Miss Springville/Mapleton just graduated from Springville High School.
We saw lots of familiar faces. Speaking of faces, nice one, boy. He also got a sweatshirt from his new school. Go, Red Devils!
On Thursday, Hallie and Eliza participated in a focus group at BUH's Alpine campus. It's located in a beautiful setting.
As with the Mapleton location, deer like to hang out here. Hallie and Eliza (she spots all the fun animals) saw this deer leaving Alpine.
On the way home, the girls picked up Kai. Eliza was so excited! Mom too.
Kai knows Eliza best, so he kind of kept close to her. Eliza is wearing a new cowgirl hat she got at the BUH store. She wore it all weekend.
On Friday morning, Mike caught sight of the hot air balloons as they landed after their morning voyage.
He and Hallie took Kai for a walk around the neighborhood. Mike caught this bumblebee noshing some nectar among some irises.
We spent a bit more time at the Art City Days carnival and booths, Landon particularly after work, where he and some friends enjoyed the activities more independently.
On Friday and Saturday morning, we were met with this scene of Eliza having decided to sleep on the office couch with Kai. He seems to be warming up to staying here. Kai is suppose to sleep in a crate in the office. All we could figure is Eliza did not like that idea. Well, having cleaned her room the two are attempting to sleep in her room on Sunday night.
Here are another couple of BUH Instagram posts relating to the advancement ceremony.
On Friday, BUH-Mapleton had an open house, so we went over to share in the fun. Happy 1st Anniversary!
Eliza got to make an acid-etched mug, and we enjoyed catered sliders, fruit, and desserts.
Hallie's friend Amanda came with her three nieces, and the girls all got in some time with the ponies. Who wouldn't want to pet Mac? Big and gentle.
On Saturday, our family and Landon's girlfriend's family got to know each other a little bit as we watched the Art City Days parade. We learned that when Kai hears sirens, he will howl along. Awooo!!
Eliza walked along with a group of participants from BUH-Mapleton.
After all his running around, Eliza decided that Kai needed a bath, so a bath she gave him.
Afterwards, we spent a quiet afternoon indoors, except for when Mike took Kai to and from Landon's work.
Sunday morning dawned bright and cool. Here is a portrait of Fergus in the morning light.
Here is a selfie of Hallie with Kai. Look over here, Kai! That proved to be a bit more difficult than she had first thought. Eliza was in the next room, and he was much more interested in watching her clean her room.
Here is a shot Hallie got of Mike, Lord of the Beasts. He has them both under his spell.
On his bike ride, Mike noted that the thistles are starting to bloom in force even as the roses have hit their peak. He even saw an oriole over by the train tracks. There is no end to the variety of plants and animals making subtle changes as the season rolls along.
After chats with Gma and Gpa O and Alie, Hallie and Eliza took Kai up to visit Gma M. Gpa M declined to visit with the doggo.
We ended the evening with our Sunday Social in the back alley. We appreciate having such friendly neighbors!
