We spent part of the week without Mom at home, as she went to the (second) Happiest Place on Earth, hard earned after working extra hours and managing teacher appreciation week activities at the junior high.
Here is the setup for the teacher and staff breakfast to start the week. We're grateful for all those who came in to help!
Eliza has enjoyed her embroidery class at BUH and her self-made bling on her clothes and accessories.
For the last couple of weeks, Mike has taken a series of classes for university personnel on using Adobe Illustrator. This (not too) old dog has learned a few new tricks! This is just a screen shot he needed to take to get a badge for the class.
Hallie loves seeing the deer near BUH. Eliza is not as entertained.
Landon's back continues giving him issues. He says it only started with his back after stopping gymnastics and starting TKD. We'll have to get him back to the doctor.
In preparation for her Disneyland trip, Hallie got fancy nails done!
Landon is now working on transformations in math. His grades there are up, and now we need to get Spanish and English on track.
He lacks nothing in the strength department.
At the preschool, Hallie and the student teachers taught the little ones about transportation and ended the unit by doing a "drive in" movie. They watched Cars, of course!
This is the kind of detail work Mike is trying to learn how to do better. At the moment, he's learning by imitating the work of historic and current artists. He's not satisfied with his own efforts to date and has yet to settle on a signature style.
Hallie and the other PTA members provided lunch to the teachers and staff mid-week. Mike got to help pick up and transport materials because of a lockdown at the high school and a lockout at the junior high. We heard too many tales in the following days of kids wanting to stay home from school. Very sad.
More deer came out to eat later in the week as well at BUH. March went out like a lion this year.
At Yates Place, Eliza participated in an Easter egg hunt in chilly conditions prior to having time off for Spring Break.
At TKD, Eliza earned her first stripe. Woot! She is having a lot of fun.
At the preschool, a parent brought in some chicks for the kids to interact with. Hallie got to play too!
Eliza went over to the field to visit with the ponies. There's a small one there who is shedding. Now Eliza is covered in winter shed as well.
Hallie left for her Disneyland trip bright and early Saturday morning, April Fools Day. Somehow, the wifi, computers, and Landon's phone disappeared with her! This meant that we who remain at home have to get creative in the entertainment department.
Keeping bedrooms clean is always a challenge. It helps to have motivation to get tidied up. Fortunately for Eliza, that motivation came in the form of possibly getting to visit a school friend.
Mike completed a project he'd been working on, imitating the work of German artist Emil Huber using some of the tools he learned from his AI (as in Adobe Illustrator, not to be confused with artificial intelligence) class.
Who can resist taking a picture of a sleeping kitty covering his wee little face?
Who can resist taking a picture of his (not so) little (anymore) girl who wanted to cuddle and go back to sleep?
Who can resist saying hi to her family while on a multi-hour road trip to DISNEYLAND!
While she was out in the field, Eliza found a rodent skull. We think it's a gopher, maybe?
Before she went to her friend Haizlee's house, we had to show Mom how far Eliza had come along in getting her room clean.
While at Haizlee's, Eliza got to use a climbing rope.
Meanwhile, Hallie made it to Downtown Disney.
Eliza also got to use some acrobatic gear. High ceilings offer unique possibilities!
Hallie got Landon a special treat at the very first shop she went to!
Mike cleaned house, watched a movie with Landon and Corbin, and did more drawing.
Hello, ladies! On Sunday, Hallie and the two Amandas took in their first day at Disney.
They got to ride all the rides they wanted to (some broke down before they rode, some after, but none during).
They met a certain well-known adoptive father.
Galaxy's Edge was not over crowded, and the weather was perfect!
Meanwhile in Utah, Saturday's pleasant weather became a bit more blustery as a storm rolled in.
We didn't let it stop us from having a friend over (hello again, Haizlee!) and a fire pit.
We're not jealous of Mom. No, not at all!
We got to play some card games after the fire died down.
Two days down, another week to go. Spring Break 2023 is gonna rock!
